Ryan Dillon

Senior Financial Advisor

Ryan Dillon has worked for almost a decade in the financial industry. He is licensed as a fiduciary and has passed security examinations 6, 63, and 65. Ryan began with a global financial firm where his role was helping financial advisors across the USA by providing tools used in creating client’s income plans. He’s thankful for that experience because it developed his true passion in this business, which is to help families craft customized complete retirement plans. From the corporate world, he moved to a private firm where he first was able to sit face to face with clients, roll up his sleeves and build a complete and confident retirement plan for families. With Fundamental Wealth Designs, he’s joined his friend who he met almost a decade ago. Together they can build a vision that resembles what is most important to them, and that is family.

Ryan’s passion grew because he wanted to develop plans that focused on all phases of retirement, not just one area. Income, taxes, investments, healthcare, estate, are all areas that need to come together harmoniously. You cannot have a complete plan without addressing all these areas.

When he’s not helping other families, he’s spending time with his wife Carrie, daughter Abby (15) and son Luke (14). Two teenage multi-sport athletes keep him and his wife busy while adding many miles to their vehicles. He’s proud to be a coach of his son’s baseball team and a cheering dad in the stands. When they do have time away from sports, they usually spend time at their family cabins, golfing, boating and hunting.

FWD mission is simple, “Retirement Designed Differently.” Solve the problems other advisors ignore so you can keep moving forward! Let’s meet so your family can become part of ours.

Phil Paulson

Financial Professional

As the eldest of three boys, Phil grew up in a natural leadership role, often being the one others turned to for guidance and support. His passion for teaching and helping others took shape early through his experience as a swim teacher, where he learned how to break down complex skills into simple, understandable steps for people of all ages. These early experiences built the foundation for the patient, education-first approach Phil brings to every client relationship today.

Phil is a Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) through The American College of Financial Services and a Certified Financial Fiduciary (CFF), reflecting his commitment to advanced retirement planning and fiduciary standards. He is also actively studying toward obtaining the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) designation to further deepen his comprehensive planning expertise.

Phil began his career at a Fortune 100 financial services company, consulting with advisors and clients on a broad range of financial products and planning strategies. After five years with the firm, he was invited to join one of its largest clients in Michigan, where he served as a retirement specialist working directly with households nearing or in retirement. This background gave him a deep understanding of both the institutional side of financial products and the real-world concerns of retirees.

As a retirement specialist, Phil has focused his practice on distribution planning, Social Security optimization, tax-aware strategies, risk mitigation, and comprehensive retirement income planning. He works with clients to design portfolios and income strategies intended to help them maintain lifestyle, manage volatility, and reduce the impact of taxes over a multi-decade retirement. Phil believes effective retirement planning requires coordination across investments, insurance, tax considerations, and legacy goals, not just product selection.

Phil is returning home to Minnesota and joining Fundamental Wealth Solutions to provide retirees with a truly holistic planning experience rooted in independence, objectivity, and education.

Outside of work, Phil enjoys golfing, following all things Minnesota sports, traveling, and volunteering in his community. He also values time with friends and family, which reinforces his belief that money is ultimately a tool to support a meaningful, relationship-centered life.
